Accessibility Statement for Spicy by Design

A service of Access Bliss

Contact: team@spicybydesign.co.uk

At Spicy by Design, accessibility isn’t an afterthought — it’s at the heart of everything we create. As a service of Access Bliss, we centre the needs of neurodivergent, disabled, and chronically ill people in our work, our content, and our community.

We believe accessibility is not just about compliance — it’s about care, connection, and making sure everyone feels welcome, seen, and able to engage in ways that work for them.

What we’re doing to support accessibility:

We actively design our digital spaces with inclusion in mind. This includes (but isn’t limited to):

  • Using clear, plain language to reduce cognitive load

  • Providing image descriptions and meaningful alt text

  • Ensuring our website works with screen readers and assistive technologies

  • Designing with consistent structure and navigation

  • Using high-contrast colours, dyslexia-friendly fonts, and readable text sizes

  • Avoiding flashing or overstimulating animations or effects

  • Offering content in multiple formats (visual, written, simplified, etc.)

  • Creating content that acknowledges diverse processing speeds and learning styles

  • Allowing time and space for rest, reflection, and autonomy

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. WEBSITE_NAME is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Work in Progress:

We understand that accessibility is never "finished." It’s an ongoing process of listening, learning, and adjusting. While we aim to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards where possible, we also acknowledge that lived experience often highlights gaps that standards alone don’t catch.

If you encounter an access barrier while using our site, engaging with our content, or attending one of our events — we want to know. Whether it's a missing alt tag, unclear language, or something that just doesn’t work for you, your feedback matters.
